Immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake on March 11, 2011, we made all efforts to contact our students (including short-term international students from our partner schools) who live on or off campus until we were assured of their safety. Se completed this check on March 18. Because of this national disaster, we moved the matriculation ceremony (for the students enrolled in April 2011) from April 8 to April 22.

In the event of another earthquake or any other natural disaster, AIU will take all necessary measures to ascertain our students’ safety and minimize disturbances in their studies.

To keep foods safe from radiation from Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant, our canteen (called Cafeteria) procures only food materials that have passed the radiation level standard set by the Japanese government. Also, Cafeteria directly measures the radiodensity of each food material by a special kit and washes them carefully with water to keep foods safe. Cafeteria tries to use local products as much as possible, although it needs to use some food materials from other areas in Japan or abroad for the items that are not available in Akita prefecture. A list showing the places of origin of the main food materials (vegetables, meat, fish, etc.) is posted inside Cafeteria for everyone to see.
