Graduate School of Global Communication and Language
Japanese Language Teaching Practices
Full-time Faculty Position

The Graduate School of Global Communication and Language invites applications for a position in Japanese Language Teaching Practices at the Lecturer, Assistant or Associate Professor level, beginning April 1, 2014.

AIU opened in 2004 as the first public ‘University Corporation’ in Japan and in 2008 it opened the Graduate School of Global Communication and Language, a truly unique and appropriate professional graduate school for this globalized society. Our graduate school consists of three programs: English Language Teaching Practices, Japanese Language Teaching Practices, and Global Communication Practices. These three programs are intended to provide specialized courses to support the acquisition of knowledge and practice, in order to train highly specialized professionals who can play an active role in the internationalized community. There are 60 Japanese and international students enrolled in the graduate program.

The University operates a two 15-week semester system, and there is an additional 7.5-week winter program in January-February. Faculty members are expected to teach 7-9 courses per year.

The successful candidate will join our Japanese Language Teaching Practices program, where s/he will offer a course related to Second Language Acquisition or Foreign Language Teaching and participate in the Teaching Practicum with other faculty members, including offering instruction for Action Research Papers. Some contribution to Japanese language courses for non Japanese students is also required.

The appointment will be made on an initial three-year, fixed-term contract basis, and is renewable upon mutual agreement. A renewed contract will lead to indefinite-term (i.e. de facto tenured) employment. Salary is competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Generous benefits are also included as part of the remuneration, including partial housing allowance, health insurance, and a research fund allowance.
